Paul Blackwell.

Developer

I’m a developer based in Brighton, UK that loves everything web.

I am currently focused on front-end development and on occasion I get involved in UX/UI design. Presently I am working at Homeflow as part of a great team, building award winning websites and online solutions.

01.About me

Hi! I have always been interested in web technologies, however my passion really exploded while at university. I studied BSc Hons Digital Media Development (think of it as a course with development and a little design) at the University of Brighton achieving a First-class honours, with an average mark of 88. I also had the pleasure of spending 15 months out in industry during a placement when I was at university, where I developed and maintained asset management software for trackingThis.

I am currently with Homeflow as a mid-level frontend developer, working with a wide range of technologies including React. We get up to some cool stuff, building anything from template to bespoke websites.

I my own time I am presently working on integrating 3D environments into web applications using a Three.js. However, check out some most recent technologies I use below:

  • Javascript (ES6 +)
  • HTML
  • CSS
  • SCSS
  • React
  • Next.js
  • Git
  • Tailwind.css
  • Webpack

animateThatSVG

animateThatSVG

UniversityProject

The aim of this project was to develop a web-based animation tool for scalable vector graphics (SVGs), allowing SVGs to be animated to work within a web browser. This project hoped to bridge some of the hurdles designers face when implementing these animations on the web. The tool itself will allow users to import SVG code, animate their SVGs and then export the animation code. The app itself was developed for my university final year project and the main technologies used were React, Tailwind.css and GSAP (a JavaScript animation library). Note that this app was also designed by myself using Figma.

kriegsman

UniversityProject

This was a browser-based game I developed for a university module (Internet game design and development), it’s loosely based on the siege of Vraks Warhammer 40k books. In this game the player is a death korps of krieg guardsman, that must face off against swarms of cultists on the Imperial Armoury World of Vraks. I made all the graphics and the animations myself using a programme called aseprite and the game itself was built using Phaser.js.

Gymify

Gymify

UniversityProject

This is a React Native app for a university module (Mobile Application Development). The application itself was designed to improve how users manage their workouts when exercising. It presents users with a set of exercises that they can go thought during a workout. However, the app allows them to have the ability to edit these exercises based on preference, ability, or equipment. It does this by making API requests to make, delete and update content on a strapi backend.
